Although we still cannot travel amidst the COVID Pandemic, we can still discover different cultures through food. Yesterday, we tried Indian and Arabic Food through Big Mummy’s Restaurant located here in Paranaque, Metro Manila, Philippines. It is a family business of Chef Rishee Gandhi which recipe started from their Grandma Vimla. Thus, the restaurant’s name- Big Mummy’s.

The Grandma has already passed away but the tradition continues through her grandchildren. Although some Filipinos may have preconceptions about Indian and Arabic Food, we encourage everyone to try something new like what Big Mummy’s has to offer. There is still a tweak on how their food is cooked giving its more flavorful taste than the regular Indian dish. And it is possible that they have ethical secret ingredients which adds up to its popularity in the current booming online food delivery industry here in the Philippines.

It is small pieces of chicken marinated in a spice mixture roasted or grilled on a skewer or spit.

      1. Somehow I make better Indian food. I feel that what we eat in Canada, USA is not authentic Indian. In the 90’s most restaurants in New York, California were owned by Pakistanis and Bangladeshis with India centric names. One could make out the difference due to use of spices and style of cooking. It is changing now with popularity of Indian cuisine from different regions of India. In short I prefer local food of country I am visiting. Something different from home food.
