Perth may be best known for its stunning beaches and natural escapes, but during our two-week stay in the city, We found ourselves mostly immersed in its urban charm. While we know we should have ventured further out to chase sunsets by the coast or hike the nearby trails, this trip became more of a city adventure. From wandering vibrant streets to discovering cultural gems and foodie spots, here are our top things to do in Perth if, like me, you end up exploring more of the city than the outdoors.
Note: For those who’d like to dive deeper into our travels, our book Exploring Around Australia has now been published and is available on Amazon, capturing our journey across the country through personal stories and experiences:

1.) Go on a Gastronomic Adventure
Perth is truly a melting pot of flavors, and food quickly became the highlight of our city stay. As a multicultural hub, it offers everything from casual street eats to elevated dining experiences. We personally enjoyed dining at Furaibo Perth, where Japanese-inspired dishes shine, and Streateats Eatery, a great spot for comfort food. Of course, two weeks wasn’t nearly enough to try everything, but one thing’s for sure—Perth’s food scene is an endless list waiting to be discovered. (Swipe below photo for more pictures)
2.) Wander Around and Explore the Cityscape
One of the best ways to experience Perth is simply by walking through its lively streets. We enjoyed spending time in the square near the train station, where the atmosphere is always buzzing with activity. From buskers filling the air with music to street performers showcasing their talents, these moments gave us a glimpse into the city’s culture and everyday rhythm. Sometimes, it’s the little things you see while strolling around that make you appreciate a place even more. (Swipe below photo for more pictures)
3.) Explore Perth’s Chinatown
Tucked within Northbridge, Perth’s Chinatown is a vibrant spot to explore, especially if you’re a fan of Asian cuisine and culture. We loved wandering through its streets lined with restaurants, cafes, and specialty shops that reflect the city’s multicultural identity. From dumpling houses to bubble tea spots, there’s always something new to try. Chinatown also comes alive in the evenings, making it a perfect place to enjoy a flavorful dinner and soak in the lively atmosphere. (Swipe below photo for more pictures)
4.) Visit Perth’s Museums
For those who enjoy a dose of culture and history, Perth’s museums are definitely worth exploring. We especially appreciated the Art Gallery of Western Australia, where we were lucky enough to enjoy free entry during our visit. It’s a great place to discover local and international artworks while taking a break from the busy city streets. Beyond the gallery, Perth has several other museums that showcase everything from Western Australia’s heritage to science and contemporary culture—making it a must for curious minds. 5.) Visit Perth’s Cathedral
Visiting churches may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but for us, it’s something we truly enjoy. Apart from being a place to pray, churches often reflect the character and history of the community they belong to. In Perth, we visited St. Mary’s Cathedral, a beautiful Gothic-style landmark that blends both history and faith. Beyond its stunning architecture and stained-glass windows, it offered us a quiet moment of reflection right in the heart of the city. (Swipe below photo for more pictures)
6.) Visit the Parliament of Western Australia
Another meaningful stop in the city is the Parliament of Western Australia. It’s not only where the state’s laws are shaped, but also an impressive landmark worth seeing up close. The building itself carries a sense of history and significance, and the surrounding grounds are pleasant to walk around. Visitors can even join a guided tour, which provides a deeper look into Western Australia’s political life, heritage, and the inner workings of parliament. (Swipe below photo for more pictures)
7.) Experience Perth’s Coffee Culture
Perth is full of cozy cafés and specialty coffee spots, making it a city for coffee lovers to explore. We enjoyed hopping from one café to another, tasting expertly brewed espresso and latte art that shows the city’s dedication to the craft. Beyond just the coffee, visiting these cafés also gave us a chance to soak in the local vibe, meet friendly baristas, and enjoy a slower pace in the midst of our city adventures.
