Posted by

Perth’s food scene is more diverse than we expected. From high-end Japanese dining to familiar Filipino snacks, here are ten places we dined at during our visit to Perth, Western Australia — whether it was a planned experience or a quick takeaway, each stop added to the journey.

Note: For those who’d like to dive deeper into our travels, our book Exploring Around Australia has now been published and is available on Amazon, capturing our journey across the country through personal stories and experiences:

1. Furaibo Perth

If you’re looking for a standout dining experience in Perth CBD, Furaibo Perth should be on your list. Nestled in a prime location with views of the city, Furaibo offers more than just food — it’s a complete dining experience. The menu is an impressive showcase of Japanese cuisine with a modern twist. Our favourites were the Yakitori Set, Mix Nigiri Set, Wafu Steak, and the Korean-Style BBQ Ribs. The ambiance? Modern and chic with just the right hint of luxury. 2. Street Eats Eatery

Tucked under the neon lights of Yagan Square, Street Eats Eatery brings a vibrant, no-fuss street food experience to the heart of Perth. Whether you’re craving skewers, noodles, or dumplings, the menu captures the best of World’s street food culture. The laid-back vibe and open kitchen make it an easy pick for casual dining. 3. Hong Kong Taste

Located within Perth’s food courts, Hong Kong Taste serves up nostalgic Hong Kong-style roasts. We sampled their BBQ Pork and Hainanese Chicken — both dishes were flavorful and reminded us of the quick yet satisfying meals you’d grab in a busy Asian metropolis.

4. Shanghai Street

Perth’s Chinatown’s Shanghai Street Restaurant was a comforting stop for homemade dumplings and hearty noodle soups. We ordered their Pan-Fried Dumplings, Braised Beef Noodle Soup, and Bacon & Vegetable Fried Rice — all freshly made and packed with authentic flavours. It’s one of those humble, no-frills spots that deliver exactly what you need on a cold day. (Swipe below photo for more pictures)

5. Roll’d Vietnamese

When you’re after a warm bowl of pho, Roll’d Vietnamese hits the spot. We tried both the Chicken Pho and Beef Pho. While it’s a chain, the broth was surprisingly rich and the servings generous — a quick and healthy option in the middle of a busy day.

6. Krispy Kreme

We never expected bagels from Krispy Kreme to be so good. Aside from their iconic donuts, we tried their Smoked Salmon and Ham & Cheese bagels — and they were satisfying, perfect for a light meal or snack between city walks.

7. McDonald’s

We always say we’d skip fast food when travelling, but sometimes a craving hits. This time, we planned our McDonald’s visit — ordering a 20-piece Chicken Nuggets and bringing along some rice. As Filipinos, the combination of nuggets and rice is simple comfort food — no shame in that!

8. Hungry Jacks

We also gave Hungry Jack’s a try — essentially Australia’s version of Burger King. Their burgers and iced drinks were filling, and while it’s a common chain, it gave us that quick fix when we didn’t want to think too hard about where to eat next.

9. Coffee Quarter

Coffee Quarter was a great spot for a mid-day break. Apart from good coffee, their Sweet Potato Fries were a surprising highlight — crispy, seasoned well, and easy to snack on while catching up on messages or just people-watching.

10. Potato Corner

We couldn’t skip Potato Corner — a beloved Filipino franchise known for its flavoured fries. The stall we visited in Perth was strictly takeaway, with no seats around, but ordering the Giga Fries still made us feel at home. Sometimes, a familiar taste from home is all you need when travelling.
