Jose Rizal spent a happy childhood in Calamba. His family cultivated vast lands leased from the Dominicans. They were the first family to build a stone house and buy another stone house in Calamba. The original house for the Rizal family was burned when Jose Rizal was already a wanted man by the colonial government. It was restored mainly through the contributions of school children and was inaugurated on June 19, 1950.
