“I’ll go back to Surigao City tomorrow.”
They worriedly looked at me. They are not satisfied with what I said.
“Don’t leave yet. You are yet to see the best of Siargao. It is in General Luna,”
I was supposed to go back to Surigao City after spending a night in Northern Siargao until my foster family obliged me to go down south. Suspecting that they might be right, I rode a trip to Dapa the next day, then took a PUV from Dapa Terminal to General Luna. The travel time is about an hour.
My suggestions for this blog could be a little bit short but I plan to update this article every time I would visit General Luna. Here are our Top 11 Things To Do in General Luna, Siargao, Surigao Del Norte, Philippines!
1.) Pray at Sto. Tomas de Villanueva Parish Church
Similar with my experience in the town of Del Carmen, the first establishment I saw after alighting from the vehicle is an old church. To start my visit with gratefulness and positivity, I prayed inside the church. It is still under rehabilitation due to the destruction of Typhoon Odette last 2021.
2.) Food trip in Siargao Restos
I have tried Home Made Taste Restaurant which offers vegan meals, Aventino’s which is Siargao’s homegrown pizza house brand and other restaurants which can be from 0 to 5 stars rank. (Swipe below photo for more pictures)
3.) Go to Cloud 9
Cloud 9 in Siargao is one of the best surfing spots in the world. There are also award-winning films shot in this location. I made sure I had a selfie with Cloud 9. You have to pay an entrance fee to visit this site. (Swipe below photo for more pictures)
4.) Surf
You can hire a surf instructor for only 500php per hour. The instructor will let you use their surfboard for free. If you want your own surfboard though, you can visit a shop of an Australian expat named Ross near Casa de Loren. (Swipe below photo for more pictures)
5.) Chill in Coffeeshops
Some of the coffeeshops I can recommend are The Artisan Barista, Spotted Pig Cafe, Vedya, White Beard Coffee, Siargao Corner Cafe and Lunares. (Swipe below photo for more pictures)
6.) Try Staying in Hostels
Stop thinking of boring dirty city hostels. Most hostels in Siargao are clean with an easy going vibe. During my stay, I booked a fan room in Sinag Hostel. This hostel is recommendable- they have reliable internet, polite staffs, and friendly guests. (Swipe below photo for more pictures)
7.) ‘Me Time’ in Resorts
If you want to have a more private set up, you can try staying on private rooms of resorts in Siargao. (Swipe below photo for more pictures)
8.) Meet New Friends
9.) Play with Dogs
There are a lot of dogs in Siargao.
10.) Buy Souvenirs
11.) Try their Public Transpo
I rode a PUV going to General Luna, tricycle on some of my excursions in General Luna and DATSCO going back to the Port of Dapa.
