45 Important International Airports in South Asia for Tourism

South Asia is composed of over 250 airports spread over India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, and Bhutan. We are citing at least 45 important international airports in South Asia for you so you can have more idea on how these airports look like and what are the tourist spots you can visit near these airports once the COVID lockdown is lifted. Unfortunately, wikipedia only gives you the list of airports. It does not show you recent pictures about the airport nor advice places you can visit after landing in that airport. We merged sources we got from wikipedia, instagram and tripadvisor making this blog unique. This will be a digital tour and I hope you enjoy the content we worked on for two days. We cannot travel physically right now due to the COVID pandemic but we can definitely travel digitally!

1.) Velana International Airport

Located in Hulhule Island, Maldives. Places to visit are Hulhule, Hulhumalé Beach, National Museum, Hukuru Miskiy, Muleeaage, Artificial Beach, Atolls of the Maldives, Sultan Park, Fish Market, Vihamanaafushi, Masjidh Al-Sulthan Muhammad Thakurufaanu Al-Auzam, Sinamalé Bridge, Villingili, Tsunami Monument, Republic Square.

2.) Maafaru Airport

Located in Maafaru, Maldives. Places to visit are Randheli, Manadhoo, Medhufaru, Kuredhivaru, Kudafunafaru, Orivaru, Landhoo, Kudafari, Lhohi, Kendhikulhudhoo, Miladhoo, Maalhendhoo.

3.) Hanimaadhoo International Airport

Located in Haa Dhaalu Atoll, Maldives. Places to visit are Hon’daafushi, Utheemu, Island Hideaway at Dhonakulhi, Kulhudhuffushi, Baarah, Nolhivaranfaru, Vashafaru, Alidhoo, Utheemu Ganduvaru, Maafahi, Utheemu Gan’duvaru.

4.) Gan International Airport

Located in the island of Gan, Maldives. Places to visit are Villingili, Feydhoo, Maradhoo, Hithadhoo, Herathera, Hankede, Gauken’di Beach.

5.) Karachi Jinnah International Airport

Located in Karachi, Pakistan. ‘Jinnah’ was the last name of the founder of Pakistan, ‘Muhammad Ali Jinnah’. Places to visit are Mazar E Quaid, Jinnah Mausoleum, Mohatta Palace, Clifton Beach, Pakistan Air Force PAF Museum, Frere Hall, Port Grand, Charna Island, National Museum Of Pakistan, French Beach, Pakistan Maritime Museum, Aladdin Park, Masjid-e-Tooba, Safari Park, Chaukhandi Tombs, Karachi Zoo Park, Sandspit Beach, Quaid e Azam House Museum, Shamspir Island, Bagh Ibn-e-Qasim, Wazir Mansion, Teen Talwar Clifton.

6.) Hazrat Shajalal International Airport

Located in Dhaka, Bangladesh. It was named after Hazrat Shajalal, a celebrated Sufi Muslim figure in Bangladesh. Places to visit are Ahsan Manzil Museum, Lalbagh Fort, National Parliament House, Sonargaon, Star Mosque, Bangladesh National Zoo, Mirpur, National Martyr’s Monument, Dhakeshwari Mandir, Liberation War Museum.

7.) Islamabad International Airport

Located in Islamabad, Pakistan. Places to visit are Faisal Mosque, Pakistan Monument, Daman-e-Koh, Margala Hills, Rawal Lake, Lok Virsa Heritage Museum, Margalla Hills National Park, Lake View Park, Marghazar (Islamabad) Zoo, Jungle World – Ayub National Park, Khanpur Dam, Fatima Jinnah Park, Pakistan Museum of Natural History.

8.) Faisalabad International Airport

Located in Faisalabad, Punjab Province, Pakistan. Places to visit are Faisalabad Clock Tower, Gumti Fountain, Lyallpur Museum, Qaiseri Gate.

9.) Quetta International Airport

Located in Quetta, Balochistan Province, Pakistan. Places to visit are Hanna Lake, Hanna-Urak Waterfall, Askari Park Quetta and Chiltan Mountain.

10.) Sialkot International Airport

Located in Sialkot, Pakistan. Places to visit are Jagannath Temple, Iqbal Manzil, Shawala Teja Singh, Sialkot Clock Tower and Sialkot Fort.

11.) Gwadar International Airport

Located in Gwadar, Balochistan Province, Pakistan. Places to visit are Gwadar Bay, Zalzala Island and Gwadar Beach.

12.) Peshawar International Airport

Located in Peshawar,  Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, Pakistan. It is also called Bacha Khan International Airport (named after a Pashtun independence activist who worked to end the rule of the British Raj in India). 16.) Shah Amanat International Airport

Located in Chittagong, Bangladesh. It was named after a famous saint of Chittagong, Shah Amanat. Places to visit are Patenga Sea Beach, Foy’s Lake, Ethnological Museum, Chittagong World War Cemetery.

17.) Tribhuvan International Airport

Located in Kathmandu, Bagmati Pradesh, Nepal. It was named after a King of Nepal. Places to visit are the Lemonade cafe, Pashupatinath Temple, Boudha Stupa, Thamel, Kathmandu Durbar Square, Patan Durbar Square, Bhaktapur Durbar Square, Garden of Dreams, and Hanuman Dhoka Durbar.

20.) Mumbai International Airport

Located in Mumbai, India. It is also known as Chatrapati Shivaji International Airport. It was named after an Indian warrior-king and a member of the Bhonsle Maratha clan. 26.) Rajiv Gandhi International Airport Hyderabad

Located in Hyderabad, India. It was named after the 6th Prime Minister of India, Rajiv Gandhi. 27.) Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport

Located in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, India. It was named after the 5th Prime Minister of India. Places to visit are Bara Imambara, Rumi Darwaza, Chota Imambara, Ambedkar Memorial Park, Nawab Wajid Ali Shah Zoological Garden, The Residency, Chattar Manzil, Janeshwar Mishra Park, Dilkusha Kothi.

28.) Kannur International Airport

29.) Biju Patnaik International Airport

Located in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, India. It was also named after a two-time Chief Minister of Odisha. Located in Pune, Maharashtra, India. It was named after a politician who is also a direct descendant of the ancient Royal Family in the state of Maharashtra. Located in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, India. It was named after a Kashmiri mystic regarded as the patron saint of Kashmiris. Places to visit are Dal Lake, Shalimar Bagh Mughal Garden, Indira Gandhi Memorial Tulip Garden, Pari Mahal, Jyeshteshwara Temple, Masjid Dastgeer Sahib.

40.) Cochin International Airport

Located in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, India. 44.) Veer Savarkar International Airport

Located in Port Blair, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, India. It was named after Indian independence activist and politician who formulated the Hindu nationalist philosophy of Hindutva. Places to visit are Cellular Jail and Havelock Islands, Swaraj Dweep, Port Blair, Andaman Islands, Nicobar Islands.

45.) Surat International Airport

Located in Surat, Gujarat, India. Places to visit are Dumas Beach, Amaazia Water Park, Surat Castle, Sarthana Nature Park And Zoo, Sardar Patel Museum.

There are a number of other international airports located in South Asia which are serving minimal number of international flights/ routes. There are also a number of international airports soon to rise. We haven’t included those yet. The 45 airports on the list are a good start to start your adventure in South Asia.   1. Exhaustive list. You have covered up the entire region except Sri Lanka. For Srinagar , Jammu & Kashmir, another place to visit is Gulmarg the famous ski resort about 60 kilometres from Srinagar.
