Posted by John F. Kennedy Airport aka JFK airport may look small due to its lighting and not-so-high ceiling but it actually has 8 terminals housing more than 70 airlines. You may still lose your way out or in or miss your flight. So, here are my 6 Tips on Your Way Out or In JFK Airport.
1.) Figure out the Air Train Route
I landed in JFK Airport Terminal 1 as my airline is Norwegian Air (London-New York). If you do not have a car like me, you may ask any airport staff where is the way to the AirTrain. Although you can figure it out through the Airport signboards, it is best to communicate and practice your English.
The AirTrain arrives every 5 minutes. I took the green line stopping at Howard Beach station. From Howard Beach station, there is a connecting subway going to Lexington Avenue where my hotel is located.
2.) Hop-on to the New York City Subway

3.) Know the Airlines Flying from JFK
After my three days stay in New York City, I took the opportunity to know what are the more than 70 airlines housed in JFK Airport. I can use this knowledge when booking cheaper flights and JFK as the layover point.
Terminal 1: Aeroflot, Air China, Air France, Air Italy, Alitalia, Austrian Airlines, Azerbaijan Airlines, Brussels Airlines, Cayman Airways, China Eastern, EVA Air, Interjet, Japan Airlines, Korean Air, Lufthansa, Norwegian Air, Philippine Airlines, Royal Air Maroc, Saudi Arabian Airlines, Turkish Airlines, Viva Aerobus,
Terminal 2: Delta Airlines only
Terminal 3:
Terminal 4: AeroMexico, Air Europa, Air India, Air Serbia, Asiana, Avianca, Caribbean Airlines, China Airlines, China Southern, Copa Airlines, Delta Airlines, Egypt Air, El Al, Emirates, Etihad, Jet Blue (International arrivals 10:30pm-5:00am only), Kenya Airways, KLM Royal Dutch, Kuwait Airways, Singapore Airlines, South African Airways, SWISS, Uzbekistan Airlines, Virgin Atlantic, Volaris, West Jet, Xiamen Air
Terminal 5: Aer Lingus, Cape Air, Hawaiian Airlines, Jet Blue (International Arrivals 5:00am to 10:30pm and All Departures), TAP Portugal

Terminal 7: Aerolineas Argentinas, Alaska Airlines, ANA (All Nippon), British Airways, Eurowings, Iberia, Icelandair, LOT, Norwegian Air (Flight DY7704 JFK-Madrid Madrid-JFK only), Qatar Airways (All AM arrivals and departures), Ukraine International Airlines
Terminal 8: American Airlines, Cathay Pacific, Ethopian Airlines, Finnair, LATAM, Qantas, Qatar Airways (All PM arrivals and departures), Royal Jordanian
4.) Figure out the Airport’s Levels
This is for JFK terminal I. I am not sure if the other JFK terminals have similar levels. Level 1 would be for arrivals. Level 2 for the AirTrain. Level 3 for departures.
5.) Arrive Early
As this is a busy airport, I encourage you to arrive early for the queue.
6.) Find out where to spend time before boarding
Once you have passed passport controls, you can check out Duty Free, Taste NY, Pizza, Pizza Pub, Hudson News, New York Gifts, The Local, XpressSpa, Soy&Sake, Uptown Market, Eat&Go, Tuscany Cafe, Ferragamo, Coach, ICE Currency, Michael Kors, Bulgari, Bally, Estee Lauder Clinique and Hermes. These are the shops in JFK Terminal I. I am not sure what you shops you can find in other JFK terminals. I’ll let you know once I visit those other JFK terminals.
