35 Important International Airports in Southeast Asia for Tourism

Although technically, Southeast Asia is only composed of 11 countries (Philippines, Vietnam, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Laos, Cambodia, Thailand, Myanmar, Brunei, and East Timor), there are almost a total of 30,000 wonderful islands in Southeast Asia which a traveller can reach through 35 important international gateways in this region. We are citing these airports for you so you can have more idea on how these airports look like and what are the tourist spots you can visit near these airports once the COVID lockdown is lifted. Unfortunately, wikipedia only gives you the list of airports. It does not show you recent pictures about the airport nor advice places you can visit after landing in that airport. We merged sources we got from wikipedia, instagram and tripadvisor making this blog unique. This will be a digital tour and I hope you enjoy the content we worked on for almost a day’s shift. We cannot travel physically right now due to the COVID pandemic but we can definitely travel digitally!

Here are our list of 35 Important International Airports in Southeast Asia:

1.) Brunei International Airport

Located in Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei. Places you can visit are Omar Ali Saifuddien Mosque, Istana Nurul Iman, Jerudong Park Playground, and Ulu Temburong National Park.

2.) Pakse International Airport

Located in Pakse, Laos. Places you can visit are Bolaven Plateau Highlands, Wat Phu, Wat Luang, and Si Phan Don.

3.) Presidente Nicolau Lobato International Airport

Located in Dili, East Timor. It was named after East Timor’s President and national hero. Places you can visit here are Tais Market, East Timorese Museum, Cristo Rei Statue, and Largo de Lecidere.

4.) Wattay International Airport

Located in Vientiane, Laos. Places to visit are Pha That Luang, Patuxay Monument, Sisaket Temple, and Buddha Park.

5.) Mandalay International Airport

Located soth of Mandalay in Tada-U, Myanmar. Places to visit are Mandalay hill, Kuthodaw Pagoda, Mahamuni Buddha Temple, and Mandalay Palace. Read our blog here.

Located in Preah Sihanouk, Cambodia. Places to visit are Otres Beach, Ochheutal Beach, Lazy Beach and Bamboo Island.

20.) Chiang Mai International Airport

Located in Chiang Mai, Thailand. Places to visit are Wat Phra That Doi Suthep, Wat Chedi Luang, Wat Phra Singh and Doi Suthep.

21.) Suvarnabhumi International Airport

Located in Sulawesi Selatan, Indonesia. It was named after one of the Indonesia Kings (16th Ruler of the Sultanate of Gowa) who was also considered as a national hero. Places to visit are Manado, Makassar, Tomohon, and Gorontalo.

25.) Sultan Aji Muhammad Sulaiman International Airport

Located in Kalimantan Timur, Indonesia. Places to visit are Derawan Islands, Kemala Beach, Kebun Sayur Market, Samama Island and Maratua Island.

26.) Kualanamu International Airport

Located in North Sumatra, Indonesia. Places to visit are Lake Toba, Medan, Samosir, Bukit Lawang.

27.) Juanda International Airport

Located in Sidoarjo Regency, East Java, Indonesia. It was named after the last Prime Minister of Indonesia, Djuanda Kartawidjaja, who had suggested development of this airport. Places to visit are Surabaya, Malang, Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park, Banyuwanggi.

28.) Kuala Lumpur International Airport

Located in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Places to visit are Petronas Twin Towers, Batu Caves, Menara Kuala Lumpur, Bukit Bintang.

29.) Changi International Airport

Located in Changi, Singapore. Places to visit are Gardens by the Bay, Sentosa, Merlion, and Universal Studios Singapore.

30.) Tan Son Nhat International Airport

  1. What a lovely list and great variety of airports around South-East Asia. Some really large and quite an experience, others a bit more smaller yet still getting you to places worth the visit.
