3.) Pray at Guildford Cathedral

Guildford Cathedral- a place of welcome, worship, inspiration and engagement, also referred to as the People’s Cathedral, welcomes people of all ages. A modern cathedral with a truly remarkable story, The People’s Cathedral was completed through the generosity of thousands of ‘brick-givers’. Being the only English Cathedral dedicated to the Holy Spirit, emblems of doves and flames are visible throughout the building; on the handmade kneelers, the pillars, on the wonderful round window and the etched glass.

Not only is the Cathedral a place for daily worship but an attraction for those looking for a unique piece of architecture. The Grade II twentieth-century building is a precious part of our national heritage being the first modern cathedral conceived and built in the twentieth century with a simple aesthetic design and decoration.

Notably, the fusion of space , light and principles from Gothic tradition paired with twentieth-century construction techniques is a reflection of architect, Sir Edward Maufe’s idea to produce a design definitely of the time yet in line with the Great English Cathedrals.

In 2003-2004 the great tower was conserved and the original crenelations and other features were discovered. A roof and floor were re-instated at first floor level, which has made the building more accessible to visitors. The tower contains a model of the original castle circa 1300, and interpretation panels tracing its history to the present day. There is a small gift shop on the ground floor of the castle.
